RE: Ocean Front Campgrounds in California

Westport beach RV, north of Fort Bragg. Haven't stayed there but their website looks interesting. Wrights Beach campground is also on the beach. Sonoma County has some nice campgrounds on the ocean.(Wrights beach may be a sonoma county park, can't remember)

RE: Campgrounds in California

We love the state parks on the coast and in the redwoods, unfortunately they do not have hookups. We just started RV camping this year and I have found that the rv parks don't have as many trees.
There is a small rv park next to MacKerricher state park I think it is in Cleone and my be called Cleone rv park. It has hookups and you can enter the state park for free to access the beach (long walk, short drive). The sights are on grass nothing fancy but it is quiet and small.
Good Luck, Beth

RE: New 5'er and looking to get away...

We went to Lawsons Landing our first trip in the trailer. It is a great first time trip. Don't have to worry about parking the new trailer. It is absolutely packed on the weekends during the summer. I suggest going during the week until after labor day. We enjoy the state parks and sonoma coast county parks. Check their websites. They are very full until after labor day.
Have a great first trip.

RE: Benbow Valley RV Resort / Garbervillle California

Just passed through there last week. The river is a trickle. That looks like a nice rv resort.

RE: Stainless steel pots & pans?

I do the same thing as Nascarcruzin. I cook eggs and hashbrowns in the non-stick fry pan.

RE: spagetti gravy

I don't have a recipe, but my grandmother always fried the tomato paste too. Then added the other ingrediants to her spaghetti sauce. It was always delicious. Years ago she ran a restaurant in upstate NY.

RE: Need a good stew recipe

My family likes the stew from the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook, (Published in the 80's)
3 T. flour
1 1/2 lbs. beef stew meat or pork, cut into 1 inch pieces.
2 T. cooking oil
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teasp. dried thyme, crushed
3 cups vegetable juice cocktail
1 teasp. instant beef bouillon granules (I have used a cube before)
Few dashes of hot pepper sauce.
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed (I use 1 or 2 extra, we love potatoes)
1 1/2 cups sliced celery
1 1/2 cups sliced carrot
In plastic bag combine flour and 1 teaspoon salt. Add meat cubes, a few at a time, shaking to coat. In a large saucepan brown meat, half at a time in hot oil. Return all meat to saucepan, add onion, garlic, and thyme. Stir in vegetable juice, bouillon, hot pepper sauce, and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Cover; simmer 1 1/4 hours for beef (30 min. for pork) or till meat is nearly tender. Stir in potatoes, celery, and carrot. Cover; simmer 30 minutes more. Skim off fat. Serves 6
Sometimes I add mushrooms.

RE: No More Antenna in 09 so Direct TV Satelite to GO

I have also heard that the antenna will still work. You can put an antenna on your house and pick up local HD stations if you have an HD tv. This will not change.

RE: Traveling herb gardens

Like was stated earlier. The inspections entering California are for plant pests that could hurt our agriculture. It wouldn't be too hard to get stuff in if you really want. They ask if you have any plants, fruits or vegetables in the vehicle. That is when the stations are open, which isn't too often. Seems useless.
